Luxury vinyl flooring offers true-to-life, nature-inspired wood, stone, and tile images. This is thanks to technological innovations like high-definition photography, deeper embossing, micro beveling, and better seaming. As a result, it's so realistic it's sometimes difficult to tell it from the real thing.
Embossing & wood textures
Textures are what put the finishing touches on a floor, and this vinyl uses machinery to mimic looks usually done by hand with large knives or steel brushes.
They include wire-brushed, which gives the wood an exposed look; hand-scraped, which offers a hand-crafted appearance; or weathered or distressed, which provides the wood with an aged, almost antique-like look with burn marks, scrapes, and knots.
Cutting & seaming
Many tell us that the design option of cutting the material adds to the realism because of the extra seams. The vinyl is cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic planks, called luxury vinyl plank, and it can also be cut into tile-sized, groutable squares, called a luxury vinyl tile. While LVP is used mainly for wood looks, some prefer it for stone mimics; alternatively, some use LVT for wood to mimic wood look tiles.
What’s micro beveling?
This eliminates those flat images you may remember from the vinyl of decades ago. Instead, micro beveling is a process where the corners are slightly angled to give it that realistic, almost three-dimensional look of genuine materials.
Other benefits include:
Luxury vinyl is a premium yet affordable flooring that is also 100% waterproof. It is durable, five times thicker than the original product, with a top, transparent, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. It requires only regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Also, installation is fast and easy, especially when it's a floating floor where the pieces click together mat, then hover over the subfloor without adhesives or nails.
